Well, most composers keep these to themselves (with good reasons); this is a new era. - I'll go in roughly chronological order. Not every piece in my catalogue has a dedication. Latin-Punk New Wave - Steve Nichols. Lullaby (2011), Waltz - Helen Renaud. Rhapsody for Guitar and Viola, Shipwrecked on Islands [the song], Innamorato - Aidan Verity (obviously👋🏻). These Words Are Meant For Someone - Emanuel E. Garcia (obviously). 'Tis You, Hidden Emotions III. - Jane Curry. Glad They Were Playing - Ingrid Saker. Machine Fatigue, Pan's Preludes VI. - Michelle Cameron. The Hungry Ghosts is her song about me and Stephen, so this was my response. 🤣 The Mist, Pan's Preludes V., K Road: Whakamana opening - Chloe Swarbrick. The Punitive Cliff - Sarah Te Korowhiti The Chamber of Colours IV. - Amber Madriaga. faglung is a term that refers to boat lutes. Hidden Emotions I. - Jake Church. After Midnight - Umar Zakaria. This was inspired by Umar's Sun Song Suites. I realised that After Midnight was a time period that his piece hadn't captured. It's a total improvisation. Pan's Preludes III. - The Daktory. Dakta Green. Rose's Song - Jennifer Ward-Leland. I really want her to sing that song. 👋🏻 Jacinda Ardern (obviously). The Beach Song - Lucinda Ng (obviously). My Soul Shall Not Bend - Phillip Collins. I wrote that song for him, rather than the previous Reginald songs, which I wrote for a theoretical knight (who was a baritone). 'Tis You is the only song I've ever transposed. Phillip sang it up a tone. The Chamber of Colours III., Another World - Patria Lakshman. She's also who I was planning to visit during The Big Smoke. 🐸 - Plus I have some film dedications. The Road You Didn't Take - Caitlin Godfrey. The Dakumentary - Gary Chiles (obviously).
Portrait of a Knight - Andrew "George" Riddell (my Dad).
-
Hopefully this clears up some persistent misunderstandings.
-
Bonus dedication: Canvas No More - Corey Anderson. I wrote most of that while he was having a blinder. Not his fastest 100, but another good ODI innings.
Another addition: Amanda Happens To Folk Songs - Dr. Michael Brown, Rupert Grobben.
Again, I don't want to write a fucking script about this. The music is the message, and that's why I'm comfortable revealing the dedications. as these are mostly instrumentals. Has it ever occurred to you lot that all these people second-guessing my every move and claiming that my songs are 'obviously' about them is the entire reason that I went sour on the idea of that autobiographical story? I'm telling that story: I'm just telling it in prose and perhaps audiobook form.
