'gay bars'

Much like with music, it's taken for granted that venues that explicitly service the rainbow community also sell alcohol. I think, in both instances, it's also a potential gateway to unwanted advances. Speaking from personal experience, the Daktory was totally a rainbow hub.

I mean, given that I'm trans and the op shop is like our main hub, why isn't going there and buying/donating clothes seen as part of my social responsibility?

Never been to Ivy. Went to Scotty & Mal's as a student; wasn't into it. -

So, why aren't we talking about gay cannabis clubs or gay psychedelic retreats? Because of the corporate takeover of the rainbows!

Rainbow capitalism is dominating grassroots activism in this strange turf war that seems to have been brewing since 2019. Essentially, Newtown is like the rainbow suburb, and there's been this feeling that the CBD isn't necessarily a rainbow-friendly space.

Various groups think that the Pride march has become commodified, and there was a concerted ad campaign in 2019 (I think) where those groups boycotted the parade. People like Tory largely want to maximise the pink dollar, and trans people are poor, so our concerns have been historically marginalised. That's what happened to me: they decided that chasing rainbow tourist dollars was more important than my autonomy or my legal rights. -

I see the Dakumentary as a big win in that war. One of the odder things that happened as the film was being born was that people kept on saying that people in the film were gay. Like, Dakta and Gary are hetero (so far as I know), and Chloe's a bit of a late bloomer, so a lot of the gayness was just me.

It's a good thing that Matthew Bannister mentioned mateship. That was a useful concept to explain the queerness of the film, and totally the vibe of that film: people standing in solidarity and marching together towards liberation.

Re: Don and Harry, The Beautiful Things sorta suggests a bi orientation lol.

In terms of my own sexual orientation, I'd say that I'm essentially a faggot, and that I prefer women or third genders.
