That’s one of my quips to try and explain Welly’s charm to people. It’s got all the amenities, but it’s postage-stamp size. Plus the neighbourhoods are so visually distinct. UNESCO City of Film is a cool place for underground work because there’s lots of pro xp around the town. We had to outsource the animation for Portrait of a Knight up to Auckland, though, where Clinton and Dave created the dream sequence - and the paint FX for Reginald - by using old-school cel animation techniques. - Politics bit: I’m all for housing intensification, but the new buildings should support the character of the areas, rather than some ugly mess like the reported plan is for Shelly Bay. That’s why I voted for Tory: it was a priority for her. I’m ok with where I live, but it’s basic and cheap: if I was better-off, I’d buy a studio apartment, but I haven’t really looked into that yet. -

Tim Hamilton created the effect of Reginald entering/leaving the painting, so that was done in Wellington. 👍 The key thing that made that effect doable was that it took place behind the door -- if I remember correctly, Tim was initially skeptical that we could do it with a greenscreen, but with the door as a composited element it was more believable. So we filmed him stepping out of the painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, then the door with Rachel leaving was added in post-production. I think the effect where he merges with the canvas is cool, but Tim wasn't as keen on that ... too '80s was his opinion, I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2W8lFJn_Es&ab_channel=RiddellProductions
