Well, I did my little bit of theatrics, which worked quite well during Question 9.
Gary was hoping that Nicola would see his Nicky No Boats shirt, but I don't think that she noticed.
Something real surprising happened during Question 11: Simon Court actually had some cannabis buds on his desk! Medical user, apparently.
Sepuloni to Winston (acting PM) CS 6, WP 3 'Those are seriously laughable questions' - Winston on whether Minister Nicholas* is up to the job re: the new ferries. [*freudian slip from Winston: he meant Nicola]
Carmel accused Act of planning to 'pawn off national infrastructure.' They said something about privatising the ferries recently.
Wedd to Willis CW 5, NW 4 Budget policy statements... 'There are always changes to the economic outlook' - Nicola. 'Somebody else pooed my pants ... that's what she's saying' - Gary.
Utikere to Peters TU 7, WP 4 Ferries and rail. Winston was out of order while responding to the primary. Despite the breezy notes, this session took about 75 minutes. 'All options are on the table' - Winston. 'We're telling the public with great transparency what we're doing' - Winston. 'Yeah right!' - Gary.
Macleod to Goldsmith DM 5, PG 6 Stalking laws. Gary said that the law changes are useless unless the cops also put more resources into protecting victims of rape or stalking. Like, stepping forward and saying that stuff isn't easy, and it makes you a target.
Hūhana to Tama Potaka HL 5, TP 3 Whakaata Māori budget cuts. They're basically shutting down the TV station and going to a streaming-only model. I think that Te Ao Māori news got cut as well, so it's a pretty big blow (though TV1 has Te Karere, so there's still Māori news on TV). Tama mentioned the 'chicanery of financial conjecture' to insult the Greens, but Kieran brought up in a point of order that 'chicanery' means 'deception', and that there are clear precedents on how those accusations are received by the Speaker. Brownlee said there used to be a blue book of unparliamentary phrases.
Hana to Casey Costello HRMC 6, CC 4 Winston Peters questioned the validity of Hana's question, which was about what the Police are doing regarding the evidence that Māori men experience adverse outcomes. He said that the evidence wasn't from the NZ Police, and therefore wasn't part of Costello's ministerial responsibility. There was some kerfuffle, but the question was allowed. 60% of victims are Māori: that's the coalition's dog-whistle whenever someone asks them about whether being tough on crime is racist.
N/A - switched sides to stare Tanya down.
Willow-Jean to Karen Chhour WJP 7, KC 5 'There have not been funding cuts overall ... we are focussing on where there are gaps' - Chhour 'She's using her 'you're picking on me' tone!' - Gary on Karen Chhour.
Unkovich to Peters TU 5, WP 5 The reason she was asking this question became clear at the end, when one of her patsy questions indicated that they'd struck a deal with Erica Stanford to remove the relationship and sexuality guidelines by term 1 next year, following an ERO report. That's quicker than I thought was possible! That's scary. 'He wants to go back to the era when no meant yes' - Gary on Winston.
N/A - switched sides. Something about workplace relations. Camilla Belich was grilling Andrew Hoggard, who was standing in for Brooke. Sounded like worker's rights have been severely eroded.
Nakhle to Bayly RN 5, AB 5 'Competition is not working well, as it should be, in New Zealand' - Bayly. This was when Gary spotted Simon's weed. There's some kind of review going on, but I liked the tone of the rhetoric, which was all about stopping monopolies and duopolies and oligopolies.
Tam to Chhour TP 6, KC 4 'We are giving Oranga Tamariki the ability to search people' entering OT facilities, presumably youth justice ones. 'I'm not going to take a lecture on how to speak about those young people from that member' - Karen on Tam. QT is on next week, but just Tuesday and Wednesday. Thought this was the last week lol.
