I am so sick of hearing or reading this. It's easy to say that when your social status is secure, you have a stable income, and you're not facing active discrimination. Somehow, wearing dresses, tights, blouses and skirts cost me all of those privileges... 😠
- I mean, to move this to a global paradigm, I'm sure that liberal and conservative Kiwis alike probably supported the mass riots in Hong Kong that were big news a few years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2%80%932020_Hong_Kong_protests#:~:text=The%202019%E2%80%932020%20Hong%20Kong,the%20history%20of%20Hong%20Kong. That's because most of the chattering classes are anti-China, but it proves my point: sometimes, passive resistance isn't good enough, and active disobedience is required.
- Plus the entire mainstream gay rights movement started with a riot in New York in the late 1960's. Why was there a riot? Because the cops arrested a bunch of queens. https://time.com/5598363/stonewall-beginnings-history/ 'Officers would throw people against the wall and make sure they were wearing three pieces of clothing that were appropriate to their biological sex, per New York State law at the time.' - Bear in mind, Carmen had already won those freedoms three years ago in Aotearoa. -
And, as I like to point out, half of New Zealand went to war in 1981 over racism. I doubt that HART, John Minto or any of the other leaders expected it to be that violent, but that's what happened when their peaceful protests were disrupted by riot squads.
Iwi Māori appear to be gearing up to go to war again, and I fully support that.

Now, back to my selfish war with SPADA, Wellington and the Film Commission.
I'd appreciate it if my detractors actually bothered to read the latest draft of Shipwrecked.
You may have disliked my earlier drafts, but I've figured out an optimistic ending that isn't too contrived.
Yes, the film is still very violent, but that's what's going to happen if it's 2030 and the coalition of delusion are still in power.
In fact, one could argue that Act and NZ First were the ones who stoked the initial fires of violence in this particular moment of history. They were the political parties of note that supported the occupation of Parliament.
David Seymour referenced that this morning in a column in the Herald.
Of course, that was the culmination of a series of anti-mandate protests, and the spies were well aware that such an event might occur.
'The time for peaceful protest has passed' - that's what Jo says in my movie.

The new ending: Edgar and Rose finally get together, the whole cast sings that Ken Avery song (Whether We're Rich or Poor), and then there's a beautiful quote from George Grey.
I'd rather like to have most of the Freedom Militia killed at Waitangi - for argument's sake, let's say that the soldiers detonate their bomb before they can pierce the barricade - so that should satisfy the bleeding heart lefties that can't believe that I'd platform those ideas in a script.
a) it's not platforming; it's satire, and that's why I've made that Nazi comparison.
b) the greenies are the heroes.
c) I began writing this before the anti-mandate occupation. Life imitates art.
Either way, that script is both a lesson in NZ history and a gripping yarn. I think that all Kiwis could enjoy Shipwrecked on Islands 2030, while I think that my trans drama would only appeal to the converted.
That's why my protest is IRL. It's not on the Internet where I feel unsafe. 🤣
The pressure to conform that I've felt from the LGB scene has been really fucking shitty, and that basically made me lose interest in being their queen.
Now, if you'll permit me to quote Richard Von Sturmer: 'we're as safe as safe can be There's no unrest in this country We have no dole queues We have no drug addicts We have no racism We have no sexism [...] There is no depression in New Zealand [...] We have no SIS We have no secrets We have no rebellion We have no Valium' That's good satire. But seriously, I'm part of the liberal rebellion, so it's such a load of bollocks for all these bougie academics and trash TV producers to tell me what is and isn't appropriate. My climate change screenplay is saying this: 'We have dole queues We have drug addicts [yes, cannabis is a subplot in the 2030 script too]
We have racism We have sexism We have censorship We have a surveillance state
