To the NZSIS and GCSB

Let's talk Shipwrecked: for starters, it's not like I wrote it in a vacuum. March 19 happened well before I wrote any pages of script, and the occupation of Parliament occurred before I wrote the Ferry Sequence, as you would have clearly seen in the keystroke-by-keystroke roll that I produced earlier this year. You're the ones that essentially told the media to sell the anti-mandate people as a bunch of white supremacists and anti-governmental people that had the goal of imitating January 6, so it's actually your messaging that I ran with regarding the Interislander and the Freedom Militia. I might also add that I created an entirely fictional event, unlike Muru, which the NZ Police complained about, but was still allowed to be produced because of the guilt and shame that you lot feel over what happened in Ruatoki. As for your own portrayal in the film... well, Kubrick got some flack for Dr. Strangelove because his War Room was too accurate. I've been a journalist, I come to Parliament on a regular basis, I'm a current activist and I've met plenty of rednecks and wackos in my ghetto/underground social circles. Hence, it feels realistic; that's good writing! Given that you didn't charge me with inciting a riot, I'd say that you weren't able to prove a causal relationship between the title song and the occupation. You're being dicks because Luxon hates me, but this is a totally valid legal defence. Also, let's put all the cards on the table: we both know that you went beyond your legal powers when you allowed people like my so-called 'allies' from the theatre community or from VUW direct access to my personal computer. I expect you to back off now, and also to consider compensating me for this gigantic breach of due process.

I'm not surveilling Chloe. I have no access to her private journals, her personal computer or even to her X account. That's called intelligence gathering, not surveillance. Or research: that's how I saw it. Research that flowered in the Dakumentary, which you Wellington insiders all seem to like.

- As for my political beliefs: AMPP is a radical fringe party, but leaving Five Eyes would definitely be a good thing. I mean, it was revealed earlier this year that the US had a secret team installed within your organisations that you weren't even aware of. As for closer relations with Asian autocracies: I also stated quite clearly that the intention was for New Zealand to promote human rights within the region, which is something that the government has been way too hesitant to do. Do you really want a closer military alliance with Trump? - Plus let's talk about the social compact: this film would create a lot more jobs than the Tina film ever could. And if it the investment comes from Kiwis, then it's probably an even better deal. Like, it's more Utu than LOTR in terms of scale, but it's still probably a budget in the tens of millions. I'm not asking people to film the Ferry Sequence immediately; I've done a few readings that were just me reading out the dialogue, but the next step is really the concept album, which obviously won't display any violence (though it'll be on the soundtrack). If the image that I put in people's heads of the Ferry Sequence is disturbing them, that's fucking fantastic. That suggests that the moment has some real emotional power. Personally, it's The Calling that I'm super-keen to film. KKK and crazy sopranos! - So, to recap: I don't deal drugs, my political protests are non-violent (if disruptive), and my anti-war views fairly standard views. Your surveillance of me has been invasive and massively illegal, so let's all just drop the act and admit that you've been using me as a punching bag because you weren't able to stop the real terrorists. I expect it to cool down a bit. Keep monitoring me, but stop intervening unless you're willing to interview me formally and/or bring charges.

As for myself, I don't have enough proof. That's what shits me: Sinead hid the articles and deleted the email chain, plus I can't really prove all this stuff that's happening because I don't know how to. But you know that you violated my privacy, and I expect future surveillance to remain within the confines of the law.

Ciao! Amanda
