Yes, they're peer-to-peer encrypted, but the cops can still get into those message chains.
FB messenger is actually safer, but even then in Aussie the cops are able to surveil those.
So, the challenge stands: face-to-face for anything where any amounts or substances are discussed. No phones or internet-capable devices, and (ideally) nobody taking notes on a criminal conspiracy. 👋
